Great - but not as good as prior years

There is no doubt that Brit Floyd is comprised of very talented musicians and vocalists. The songs they performed were done in a superior manner. Many lead guitar or synth solos were spot on – nearly note-for-note perfect. The vocalists sound surprisingly very similar to the original Pink Floyd vocalists (Syd Barrett, Richard Wright, Roger Waters, David Gilmour). And Eva Avila stole the show with her vocal performance on The Great Gig in the Sky, evoking a standing ovation. I only have four complaints/concerns: 1. The music was too loud – typically falling between 100-110 dB(a) (occasionally, it would tip just slightly over 110 dB(a).) When you consider the typical attendee at the Brit Floyd shows (significant majority were silver-haired heads), who typically have a difficult time with extremely loud sounds, this show was too loud. It actually hurt my ears and I had to use ear plugs. 2. The light show as somewhat annoying. All too frequently, the back lights (spotlights) would scan the audience, temporarily blinding us. Those of us silver-haired attendees fighting cataracts, were blinded each time those spotlights swept the crowd. One or two sweeps would be OK, but the continual use of the spotlights shining into the audience became a significant annoyance. Imagine if you were one of the performers and had the spotlights shining in your eyes – you’d soon see how annoying it is and would modify the light show portion of the performance. 3. The house mix wasn’t all that great, especially as the total volume continued to increase. At times, it was difficult to hear Ian Cattell or others when harmonizing. At times the keyboards/synth was too strong. And through much of the performance, the drums (especially the kick/bass drum) was significantly overpowering. Thus, the balance was frequently off kilter. 4. I was somewhat disappointed that the group played so many songs from the not-so-well-known albums. In my opinion, the four most popular Pink Floyd albums (Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Wish You Were Here, Animals – the first three being the only Pink Floyd albums to hit #1 in the USA), were under-represented. Although the band’s music is really terrific, the show itself seems to be going downhill. This is the third time I’ve seen Brit Floyd perform, and each time it seems to be getting worse – to the point where I will likely not go see them again.
